Fate (Short stories)
“The number you are calling is busy….”
The electronic voice replied as
Aparna put down the phone angrily, somewhat disappointed.
A message popped up saying
“Call you later”
No matter how many times this
happens, it always leaves the same bitter feelings in her, making her more
irritated. She should be used to this now. Things changes so are people.
She shakes her head, as if it
will throw away all the bad feelings and anger from her head.
No she should not be thinking
like these, he must be busy. He will call back as soon he will get time.
He always did.
She so badly wanted to keep on
calling him till he pick up the phone, to make him as irritated as she is.
Amidst of all the irritation a
thought crept up as she smiled at the memory. It’s not the first time she is
thinking to do something like this, she has already done this so many times and
this always lead to big fights and then making up to each other.
She inhaled the strong aroma of
hot coffee that was placed just now in her table, clamming her heart and mind
as she sips it, sitting at their regular place.
The corner one, side of the window, opening outside to the less crowded
down ally of the famous library junction.
It is their favourite chill out
place, they have come across it very late, actually this is not a very famous
place or a place of good food. It is just a normal café with very few options,
but then the peace and relaxation it offers from the otherwise busy crowded
place is something that made them regular at this place even abandoning their
craze for good foods.
Things are not like this previously.
Back then they used to have lots
of time, less tension and care about future. While she is an ignorant, he is
careful to play along her mood. She will chatter tens to tons and he will
listen them all attentively, and replying as if it is not her but him who is
facing all those situations that she is describing.
People come and go, but it is
always him for her, even an ant bites, it has to be told to him and that to
first and he also have the worlds time to even listen to her these nonsenses.
It is such a feeling for her that she never able to difference between her and
him, he is like her own skin to her, it is not him but her.
But then time never remains the same….
He got busy in his life, office,
family. As he rarely makes time for her, she is like a 2 years’ kid who has
snatched of her favourite candy. She has taken him for granted. Like this
café’s corner seat.
Always and Forever……..
She sighs!
She was so happy and wanted to share
this news with him as soon as possible, her best friend.
Best friend!!
They were best friends, she
always wonders how they become like this! She is not a very out spoken person,
instead keep contacts when it is necessary, and he also somewhat like that.
Is it the group assignment back at college made them so??
Whatever may be the reason, their
friendship never broke after the completion of assignment neither at the moment
when he confessed to her that he somewhat come to think of her as more than
friends nor when she told him that feelings are complicated and she choose to
be as friends only.
What he must have felt back then!
She never thought of it back
then, but he stayed back like always….
As like her, she always thought,
people are all the same, they want something so they choose to stay, so is he.
But then why he gave her a hope, being the unyielding support, when she almost
broken her heart over her long time crush, cried at the comforting words of her
best friend.
Exactly what was he must be thinking at the moment, consoling,
comforting to a girl he likes for another man?
A long time has passed, so many
things has changed, he has gotten busy, she too. In the long time of almost a
decade, they have fought many a times, so many “sorry” and “it’s okay” has
said. Their long conversation has gotten short to five minutes more frequent
now days.
But they have never have broken apart like with others.
If it was any one but him, may be
they have moved apart after the assignment, or may be the time he confessed
like with others, if not so, then for sure after so many fights they had.
May be it is Fate.
Fate! Can she call it, when in
the first place she has never ever given a chance to others? She has run away
the very moment, if someone show a slightest bit of tendency to like more than
friend.
Then why not with him? She doesn’t know.
She put the empty coffee mug back
on the table, it is almost one hour, she checked her phone, no messages or
calls yet. seems like she have to celebrate it alone. She get up to leave while
her phone rang.
“Where are you?”
There was a fit sarcastic replay ready
to his bossy question, but she decided to ignore it just today.
Yes! Only today, today is a special day and she is happy.
“at café, just leaving.”
She pushed the wooden door open,
as she stepped out to the winter night, it was past 7:30pm.
“Perfect then”.
“what is perfect?”
“My intuition, I knew you will be here.”
She looks around her consciously,
spotting a tall figure at the junction of the ally waving some packet at her. She
smiled as she recognised him.
“what are you doing there, standing like a fool, come fast! Your noodles
are getting cold. How about discussing your first day at office CEO madam?”
She can feel him, his teasing
eyes, smiling face. He is happy as much as her, may be more.
“Noddles!!”
“Yeah, it’s my apology for being late, now come fast.”
She put back the phone in the
pocket feeling the coldness of the ring that she has brought for him long back
as her feet hurried towards him.
Yes, it’s perfect, cause it’s Fate.
